Mint weight or the 0.715 convention?
This calculator uses mint weights: each coin's exact silver content as struck. Dealers pricing circulated 90% coin by the bag instead use a convention of 0.715 troy ounces per $1 of face value (about 1.2% under the minted 0.7234 ozt) to allow for wear. Both figures are shown in the face-value table; for lightly circulated coins the truth sits between them.
What "times face" means
At $68.58 silver, circulated 90% coin is worth about 49.0 times face value - a $1 face value in silver dimes is $49.03 of metal. The times-face page tracks this multiplier.
